Tiny Stitches Newsletter- April 2007
After the discussion at the last meeting about the number of bags we give to
Gwinnett Medical each month, Gloria Bantekas and Georgia Lucas met with
Yvonne Wallace, the lead social services person at the hospital. She told
them that an average of 525 babies are delivered at Gwinnett Medical
Hospital each month. There is a large indigent population among these
families. Yvonne offered to keep track of what she has toward the end of the
month and only order what she needs. Gloria feels that with that many
deliveries it is not unreasonable to give them 20 bags each month since we
give 16 bags to Lighthouse Clinic in Ellijay and they have a much smaller
population.
During the Pre-pack meeting on Wednesday, the following problems were noted.
There
are pattern problems with lap front shirts and burp cloths. Please check
your
patterns. Hats and ribbing for gowns are being made from fabrics with no
stretch.
This is a waste of materials because these items must be thrown away. The knit
fabrics should only be used for garments- gowns, lap-front shirts, sleepers and
hats. Check the stretch of knits. Lap pads, burp cloths and bibs are made
entirely
from woven fabrics.
The efforts of each of the volunteers are greatly appreciated but it is
frustrating
when your effort is wasted on items that are not useable.
When supplies are taken from the warehouse, please contact a board member when
any item is running low (aka- snaps, yarn, terry, batting etc.) Also
please take only
what is needed for the current month or meeting. This will help us to
better share
the supplies as well as help with inventory control. We are all a bit like
"magpies" when we see new supplies come in and see something we really like. If
you
don't use something in a couple of months (and don't know when you will) please
bring it back and give someone else a chance to sew it.
More yarn has been ordered from JoAnn's and will be coming in soon.
