Tiny Stitches Newsletter- May 2006

“Since we have some new volunteers (and we all can use a reminder) take note of the following information. File this newsletter with your patterns for future reference”

These were the opening sentences of the April newsletter. What followed was not criticism of anyone. As we prepare to pack the bags we do not know who made individual items or even what group brought them.  Every month there are articles turned in that are not ready to be put into the bags- No stabilizing stitching, no snaps, too large, too small, loose threads. If we could take individuals aside to point out concerns, each one would say “I didn’t know, thanks for helping me do better”. Even the “pros” among us get tips from others when they start making a different item. If anyone has any questions or concerns call a member of the board or a workshop leader. We are there for you.

Each month we usually need EVERY thing that is turned in to fill the bags. If we have to take items home to finish or have to pass them to other charities, it reduces the number of bags we can pack and costs Tiny Stitches volunteer hours as well as the cost of   the materials. We appreciate each volunteer and all the dedicated work.

The packing crew would appreciate it if each group would “inspect” the items being turned in, brag on the items well done and help volunteers to get other items “bag ready” before sending them to the warehouse.

Emily Wojtczak has a new job with Homestead Bank and was crocheting on an afghan during her lunch hour. Her boss came by and inquired who she was making it for so in true volunteer form she told him all about Tiny Stitches. He went back to his office and returned with a $500 check for Tiny Stitches. Way to go, Emily!

Gloria and Cathy made a presentation to a church circle group in Marietta on April 20. These ladies had made hats and quilts ready for us to bring back. They want to set up a monthly meeting just to sew for Tiny Stitches.

The Alpharetta group had to cancel their April meeting due to storms and damage to the church where they meet. Some members had damage to their homes but no personal injuries. During the Great Day of Service at the First Methodist Church, Renee and Meredith had a table showing all about Tiny Stitches. They recruited some new volunteers. Good job, ladies!!
