January 2005

The 2005 "fireworks" has started for Tiny Stitches! We have received another $2000 grant from the Wheatley Foundation in California. (Thanks Rosa!) Dianna at Atlanta Sewing Center presented us with a $600 check that is the rest of the donation from the Smokemist Subdivision Block Party.

We already have some new volunteer- make them feel welcome.

Last year we delivered 451 layettes with a total of 17039 items and 99 burial envelopes. Good job, gang!

After packing the first 51 layettes for 2005 on Monday, the "cupboard"is almost bare! We need all garments- there are no sweater sets. Be sure to request any supplies you need to be delivered to group meetings or workshops. If you wish to go to the warehouse to select supplies, contact any board member to make special arrangements.

We have a lot of things happening this Spring.
Thanks to Donna Voss of the Bunten Road group, we have an opportunity to learn to smock from a well known teacher on Feb 22 at the Bunten Road workshop. If you wish to attend the class, contact Donna before Jan. 31 so she can prepare enough practice pieces. Her e-mail is Dvthimble@aol.com and her phone # is 770-963-0939. Everyone attending the workshop on Tuesday, Jan 25 will be making preparations for the class.

Tiny Stitches will again have a booth at the Sewing Expo, March 11,12 and 13 at the Gwinnett Civic Center. Volunteers will be needed to talk to people about Tiny Stitches to recruit new volunteers. Workers will need to be prepared to purchase their own tickets to the Expo. It is a great place to see all the new sewing stuff!

How are you at Scrapbooking? We need someone to update our scrapbook before we show it off at the Expo. Anyone interested?

Donate Old Cell Phones:
Did you get a new phone for Christmas? Gloria found a great use for your old one. There is a charity-Women are Dreamers, too (WADT for short) that reprograms old cell phones to only dial 911 to give to abused and battered women. If you have one, mail it to WADT,Inc. at 7001 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Suite 400A, Norcross, GA.30092. Thet will send you a tax receipt.
