April 2005 Newsletter

This month we start with a message from our president, Debbie Vickers.

"Each month Tiny Stitches is providing more layettes. It is astounding that we were able to deliver over 50 layettes in April simply because of the number of items it requires everyone to make. There is a need for more of us to make garments (sleepers, gowns, and shirts). Who would like to learn to use a serger? There are 2 available for loan. Requests are on a first come basis.  These machines are easy to thread and very user friendly.

With the advent of spring, we have stopped putting fleece items in the bags. If you have some in progress, please put them away until fall. We will put the little diaper shirt and the one piece creeper in during the summer. If you don't have a pattern for either of these, you can make copies of the patterns at any workshop or meeting. A shirt that is just the right size can be made using the sleeper pattern cut at the waist and shortening the sleeves. Diaper shirts can be made from wovens or knits. The creeper needs to be made from knits to allow for stretch pulling over the baby's head."

The Marietta group will no longer have work meetings. To those who are leaving, we say thank you for all your hard work.  We will miss you and hope you can come back and join us again.  Those that will continue to sew, knit and crochet for Tiny Stitches will be able to pick up supplies and leave finished items at the Atlanta Sewing Center in Marietta. All of the supplies from Martha have been returned to the storage unit in Suwanee. E-mail information@tinystitches.org or call any board member to request supplies.

Olivia's Angels closed their group in middle Georgia as of the end of January. Tiny Stitches is the recipient of their supplies. We are sad anytime a non-profit group must end but we are excited to see the wonderful things we are getting. Mary sent some wonderful fabrics and yarn as well as a serger.

Gwen Peterson reports the Alpharetta group has a few new volunteers as a result of their participation in the First Methodist Church "Great Day of Service". Several new volunteers learned to knit and crochet on that day. Keep up the good work!

If you attended the Smocking class at Bunten Road Park, Donna Voss asks that you finish your smocking (or if you have decided smocking is not for you) to return the garments finished or to be finished by someone else.
