Tiny Stitches- September Newsletter
By Monday it will be September !st, Labor
Day. Due to the holiday, the business meeting at Atlanta Sewing Center will
be held the next Monday (Sept.8). Hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend.
The month of August has been almost mind
boggling. Gloria and Cathy were invited back to the Duluth Kiwanis to
receive a $500 check. Thanks to the hard work of Rosa and Shari, we got a
grant of $500 from QuikTrip. Lucent Technologies sent a $500 check in
recognition of the volunteer hours that Jim Vickers has worked helping Tiny
Stitches (Do we see a pattern here?) There was an additional $20 in
memorials to Sharon Drozet and $105 donated to the Small Warehouse Fund. The
Duluth Kiwanis talked about Tiny Stitches when they visited the Alpharetta
Club and gave us the name of the contact person there. Gwen Peterson and
Cathy will make a presentation at the Alpharetta Club on September 17.
Rosa sent a request to Land's End asking for
a donation of fleece that is being turned into sleepsacks and blankets as we
speak. An ASC customer donated her old sewing machine to Tiny Stitches when
she bought a new one. The pHat Quarter Quilting Club whose members work at
the St. Joseph's Hospital Laboratory sent us the quilts they made during
their last sewing day.
A special thanks to Ann Ofstrofsky of the Snellville Tiny Stitches group. Ann will be moving to Florida in October.Ann has been a long time dedicated volunteer, knitting numerous sweaters, hats and booties. She will be missed at the Snellville workshops. Thanks for sharing all your talent with us. Ann will be honored with a covered dish luncheon at the Snellville workshop on Sept. 18. A photographer from the Atlanta Journal visited the Snellville workday. A reporter is working on a story about Tiny Stitches which will appear in the Gwinnett section soon. The Alpharetta group has recently had publicity from DeeDee Muehlbauer with articles in the Alpharetta Revue and the Alpharetta Neighbor. Gwen says they have received at least 10 phone calls from prospective volunteers. The Alpharetta group meets in the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church. This Church is having two activities soon that we need to attend if possible. On Sept. 12-13 there will be a Li'l Angels Consighment Sale which will benefit Tiny Stitches. We will receive 50% of the proceeds from this sale. On October 18th the FallFest will also benefit Tiny Stitches.
