Tiny Stitches Newsletter- November 2003
This month has been more TREAT than trick for Tiny
Stitches!
After taking inventory we find we need the following
items:GOWNS especially either or girl; SLEEPERS-girl or either; BIBS-
boy, girl, and either; HATS- boy and either. We are also getting low on
quilts. We have a temporary overstock of lapfronts, lap pads, burp cloths,
and sleepsacks. CONTACT GLORIA BY WEDNESDAY IF YOU WANT SUPPLIES AT THE
BUSINESS MEETING
Many thanks to everyone (at last count there was about 20) who helped get the fabric from Garan prepared to go into the warehouse. There was 4600 pounds of fabric that came in either 50 pound rolls or in "moon rocks". Moon rocks are 400 to 500 pound stacks of fabric, layered in 4x4 foot squares and then plastic wrapped. We also got a large quantity of thread in many colors. Thanks to Rosa and Debbie for handling all the details that made this donation possible.
Gwen reports that Tiny Stitches will receive
approximately $1000 from the Alpharetta Methodist Church Fall Fest. The
Alpharetta group meets in this church and they receive money and support
from the church on a regular basis. Six new volunteers have joined the
Alpharetta group this mont. Good job. Alpharetta!
We all get caught up in being "tiny stitchers" and forget we have other lives. Lila Hunter has resigned her committee assignments because her husband is dealing with serious medical problems. Linda Anderson sent an apologetic e-mail for not getting anything made for Tiny Stitches because she has been in chemo treatment. She hopes to be back soon. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers. There are volunteers we only know by the items they donate. A friend of Betsy Malone, Hazle Rice, was one of these hard workers. She never attended a meeting but spent hours hand finishing, with blanket stitch, piles of receiving blankets. With the help of her friend, Margaret Kerlin, Hazle made blankets as she received chemo treatments, Margaret Kerlin plans to continue this good work in memory of her friend. On a happier note, after the articles in the newspaper, we have had a lot of calls bny potential volunteers. One lady lives in Winder and does not have a computer so she took the names from the newspaper and had her daughter look in the phonebook until she found my phone number- the only one not in a husband's name. (She found Gloria, too- "Funny last name") She will bring her friend with her to the next workshop at Gwinnett. Important dates this month:
