Tiny Stitches Newsletter-
May 2003
Greetings! We hope everyone had a great month of April with
Spring Holidays,
Easter and Passover. For one, I am ready to get back to more sewing for the
babies.
In April we delivered the first layettes to the Fannin County
Health Department
in Blue Ridge. Their clients have babies at several different hospitals- some of
the ones we serve and some we do not. The case workers will now be able to give
layettes to the mothers who do not get them at the hospital, so we will be
serving all of their needy clients. The case workers were all smiles when they
saw all the things in the layettes. This adds another county to our service map.
A large number of people signed our guest book at the EXPO
and we are still
trying to follow up with each one who expressed an interest. Several ladies in
Cartersville are starting to sew for us. They will pick up and deliver to the
Cobb County location of Atlanta Sewing Center. ASC is so good to us!
One Tuesday night in April, Rayann Walker and Debbie Vickers
were invited by
Gwen Peterson to accompany her for a presentation at the Methodist Church in
Alpharetta where our Alpharetta group meets. It was a wonderful opportunity to
let the church know how much we appreciate the use of their facilities and to
tell them all about Tiny Stitches. Tiny Stitches was allowed to request a
donation from their fall festival and may have some new volunteers from the
audience.
Alpharetta's next workday is Saturday, May 10, and the
emphasis will be on
garment construction. Anyone who would like to see the demos, or would like to
come and share their tips and talents, is welcome. The Alpharetta group meets at
the Alpharetta First United Methodist Church, 69 North Main Street, Alpharetta
from 9:30 to 12:30pm.
This month we have had 3 donations of money, 2 previously
owned sergers and a
large quantity of cone thread in jewel-tone colors. The sergers will be used by
the Alpharetta group (See Gwen for details) and anyone wanting some thread,
contact Debbie Vickers.
For the summer months, a new item will be added to the
layettes. It is the short
sleeved diaper shirt from McCall's pattern 2490. This item can be sewn entirely
on a regular sewing machine and made from either woven or knit fabric. Thanks to
all who brought samples to the April business meeting as suggestions.
DON'T FORGET TO REQUEST SUPPLIES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.E-mail
Gloria
(gloriabantekas@aol.com)
or call her (678-482-8360) by no later than Wednesday,
April 30.
A REMINDER- There are no quotas! Please take the time to
totally complete each
item so it is ready to go into the bag. Do the top stitching, quilting, thread
tucking, and similar finishing steps. If you "don't do snaps" we can help you to
learn or check around and find a buddy in the group to help you to get items
ready to turn in.
